The New HD Range from GSF: Precision, Price, Performance
Constructed from cold drawn steel sections and fitted with caged carbon steel ball bearings the OWS 50 drawer slide provides unequalled strength from within a mechanically compact two beam design. With load capacity of up to 410Kg per pair (see load/length tab for details of the range), this slider can be adapted by GSF to provide up to 70% extension if required.
Additional slider variations may be produced with alternative closed lengths, extensions, mounting systems, bracketry and surface treatments.
Due to the dimensions of the telescopic slide and the materials used this telescopic slide has a high level of resistance to shock and vibration when supporting a static load in the closed position. The substantial steel sections used in the OWS 50 drawer slide design offer excellent side load characteristics that are a valuable addition when supporting high loads in the extended position. Accordingly this product is well suited for applications where the important factors for consideration in the design process are maximum space utilisation, extreme loadings and resistance to shock and vibration.
This product may also be used in its minor axis but the load capacity will be reduced to 60% of stated load stated for us in major axis.
As with all products in GSF's HD range, the slide has a corrosion resistant electrolytic zinc coating as per ISO 2081, and is precision engineered to produce a smooth operational movement and eliminate problems encountered with looser-fit slide products.
The Slides are manufactured from cold drawn steel C45E+C in accordance with EN 10277. Standard ball cages are manufactured from zinc plated sheet metal, and the ball bearings are carbon steel C85 G100 in accordance with DIN 5401.

Specials For the mounting of electronics in non-standard environments, many different factors may need to be taken into account. For example, when mounted in vehicles, the electronic components and the slide systems holding them in place have to be able to withstand vibration, impact, and dynamic forces caused by the movement of the vehicle itself. In some cases, particularly military applications, the system may need to be designed to withstand damp, dusty and corrosive conditions as well. GSF's long experience of specifying slides and systems for a vast array of non-standard applications constitutes possibly the most valuable resource available to you. To help ensure that your product performance criteria are fully satisfied a range of additional options are available for consideration - selection of base materials for the slide beams, cages and ball bearings, specification of corrosion resistant finishes, end-stops, locking mechanisms, double extensions, slide reinforcing and many more. Effectivly, GSF can provide the most standard of solutions through to a totally bespoke slide design.

General Specification and design of linear movement systems incorporating linear rails and telescopic slides for use in machine guarding applications and the design and installation of manufacturing, cargo handling and other situation specific plant and machinery. In such industrial applications, reliability and robustness are key requirements. When incorporated into automated plant, movement precision is also vital. The load capacities indicated on GSF's high-end range represent the maximum load that can be carried whilst causing a slide deflection at full extension of no more than 1% of the slide's closed length. This is a much higher and more rigorous standard than is typically used by others for measuring slide load capacities, as a results our customers have come to rely on GSF products for their durability and strength. GSF's range also includes slides that operate with ultra-high precision based on innovative roller bearing technology, and which are self aligning. GSF's design team has the ability to offer all or any of these components when working alongside your own engineering team. |
Merchant Vessels Applications can range from slide based storage systems, lockers and furniture, through rack mounted electronic compenents, and onto operational systems requiring linear movement. Whether specifying product for a 19" electronic rack or to mount standby generator, the telescopic slide system needs to retain rigidity and be safe to operate despite ship motion and vibration. GSF's range includes heavy duty stainless steel slides (partial or full extension), and can be bespoke engineered with a range of options in respect of surface hardening, strengthening and corrosion resistant finishes to ensure flawless operation in the chosen application. With its extensive expertise and design capability GSF can work closely with your own engineering team to design and produce complete drawer sub-assemblies, taking account of all the special characteristics required for the product to work effectively in the marine environment. |
Oil Rigs Telescopic Slide components for storage and equipment stowage areas; Slide and linear rail components for operational machinery. Whilst offshore installations are generally static structures and so do not require the telescopic slide components to be able to withstand the same dynamic forces, issues of corrosion and the ability to operate reliably in the marine environment remain unchanged. From high precision roller-bearing slides and systems through to standard stainless steel slides for use in staff accomodation areas, GSF is able to provide expert input and select an appropriate product from its range to match the application.

Commercial Coachbuilding For the adaptation of coaches, trucks and trailers our heavier duty slides are generally required. Load distribution, method of opperation and locking are crucial points for consideration when selecting components and designing such applications. It is recommended that locking systems external to the slides are installed with secure lock-in and lock-out features to eliminate any risk of injury to members of the public using the adapted unit. When selecting a model of slide based on its load capacity allowance should be made for the likelihood that the load may not be evenly distributed and where people are involved the load will be mobile and varying. GSF's product range includes heavy duty partial and full extension slides able to carry loads of 600 KG to 1,250 KG at extensions of 2,000 mm to 800 mm. |
Response Vehicles Roadside assistance and other categories of vehicle that need to stow and provide easy access to equipment can be enhanced through appropriate use of telescopic drawer slide and linear rail systems. The twin requirements of operator safety and operational effectiveness are of paramount importance. GSF's ability to select and adapt from an unrivalled base product range, and its ability to assist with the design of bespoke and space-saving drawer systems enable us to make a significant contribution to your own product design. |
Battery Rafts Heavy duty specialist slide components for mounting under-train battery rafts. The slides must, like the carriage as a whole, comply with crash testing criteria and, as high speed trains become ever more prevalent, there is an increasing requirement that the slides are able to hold heavy battery sets in position despite large dynamic loads. Battery bays can also house a corrosive atmosphere over long periods, and therefore careful specification of corrosion resistant finishes are required. The nituration option available on GSF's relevant product range provides this resistance as well as considerably strengthening the surface structure of the slide itself. To facilitate ease of fitting and maintenance, GSF is able to design bespoke fitting brackets including, for example, positioning pins. Despite improvements to train suspensions, running with metal wheels on metal tracks also makes vibration and shock relevant issues to consider in slide design. Finally, as battery rafts constitute one of the heaviest loads typically mounted on slides, careful consideration is required to the consequent force required to push-in or pull-out the battery raft and the strength and shock-reduction characteristics of the end stops. These are all critical factors that should direct the slide specification. |
